MCFL: Your favorite baby can be the Walk Baby and help other babies and their mothers!

by: MCFL Press Release

Tue May 24, 2011 at 16:17:53 PM EDT

All the beautiful babies on our web site and in our mailings have been babies who participated in past Walks to Aid Mothers and Children.  Some have actually been Walk Babies.  They are all so adorable! We hope you will enter your favorite baby!

Any baby aged 6 months to 2 years is eligible. The winner's picture will be used in all promotional material for the 28th Annual Respect Life Walk to Aid Mothers and Children on October 2.

The Walk gives so many helping groups the opportunity to gather support.  Your baby could be the one who helps these groups!

This year we are accepting pictures by email, so click "respond" right now or mail to
Massachusetts Citizens for Life
The Schrafft Center
529 Main Street
Charlestown MA 02129

This is such fun - we all love seeing the babies!  Please send along your picture.  Anne

PS.  This year we are going to bring all the pictures to the Annual Meeting of the Members at BC so that everyone can vote.  It will be a highlight of the evening.  So please have your pictures in by Friday, June 10th!

Many thanks to all the Mother's Day Rose Drive coordinators and anyone who supported them.  Early returns indicate that this is a very good year!  If your Church (Catholic or not) does not do a Rose Drive, please consider helping us out with this important fundraiser.  You can do a Rose Drive any time.  Memorial Day and Father's Day are good.  Another possibility is red roses for Pentecost (June 12th).  Looking ahead, any Sunday in October for Respect Life Month works.  Please contact me at jcallahan@masscitizensforlife.org or 617-242-4199 ext. 230.

###

from Madeline McComish:

Sincere Thanks to all the pro-lifers in the Sixth Worcester State Representative District who worked so hard to elect Peter Durant. Peter won the election with a 56 vote margin.  Congratulations, also, to the members of the MCFL State Political Action Committee. The  PAC called and mailed to close to 1000 people twice as well as a couple of emails and sent out almost 8,000 Dear Friend cards for our people to send to their friends.
The State PAC also worked for Jim Dixon, a great pro-lifer. Unfortunately, Jim was defeated.

MCFL: "Choose Life, Your Mother Did"

by: MCFL Press Release

Sun May 08, 2011 at 16:27:57 PM EDT

Today I am reminded of that old, appropriate bumper sticker!  There are so many wonderful Moms around us!

We just finished the Rose Drive at our church.  I know many of you are in the same position.  I cannot tell you how important the Drives are to our life-saving work!

Recently I heard that St Francis said, "Preach the Gospel.  If you have to, use words".   As we do Rose Drives, we preach the Gospel of Life.

At our church we have at least eight little girls from China, ages four to nine or so.  Four of them were sitting near me this morning all dressed up for the May Procession.

Every week during the Children's Mass, a young man with "special needs" paces back and forth in front of the altar.  This morning he paced in front of the pastor during the homily.  There are hundreds of children in the church.  Not one draws attention to the young man.

Last night, a woman with Down Syndrome came out of church with her parents.  She gave me her money, took her rose, and whispered to me, while pointing, that it was for her mother.  This morning a mother and her son, who has Down Syndrome, stopped by to thank us for all we do.

I had planned to send a lofty poem to recognize all you special mothers, grandmothers, God mothers, and mothers at heart but I think your actions are more meaningful than a poem.

Thank you for being who you are and so faithfully doing what you do!

Happy Mothers' Day!

Anne

MCFL: Maria Talks doctors site? Legislators call for de-funding!

by: MCFL Press Release

Wed Apr 27, 2011 at 12:31:57 PM EDT

Maria Talks asks:  Do people really have abortions?

The Herald wrote last week:  "Maria tells teen readers abortion is a 'hot topic' but that the procedure is 'more common than you think' and 'safe and effective, though some people may experience temporary discomfort.'  The site's discussion of risk is limited to advising that it is better to get an abortion sooner rather than later."

This afternoon, the site says:  Yes.  It has been estimated that as many as four out of every 10 women in the United States have had at least one abortion by the time they turn 40 years old.

MT was down this morning - could it have been to change some evidence?

PRESS CONFERENCE:  This morning a bi-partisan group of state legislators held a press conference to announce that they are sending a letter to the Governor demanding that MT be taken down and de-funded.  They will deliver the letter tomorrow because they expect to add to the fifty signatories.

Re. Marc Lombardo (R-Billerica) is leading the effort.  He spoke, as did Reps. Colleen Garry (D-Dracut), Elizabeth Poirier (R-North Attleboro), and Stephen DiNatale (D-Fitchburg).  Also spearheading the letter are Reps.  James Lyons (R - North Andover) and John Rogers (D-Norwood).  Other lawmakers at the press conference included Reps Geoff Diehl (R-Whitman), Donald Wong (R-Saugus), George Ross (R-Attleboro), Ryan Fattman (R-Sutton), Angelo D'Emilia (R-Bridgewater), David Vieira (R-Teaticket), Kevin Kuros (R-Uxbridge), Richard Bastien (R-Garnder), Viriato DeMacedo (R-Plymouth), Don Humason (R-Westfield), and Jay Barrows (R-Mansfield).  Read more.

John Triolo, our Assistant Legislative director, provides this video of the press conference.

John also reminds you that you can "Ask the Governor" on Thursday at 9am with Jim and Margery on 96.9 on the radio dial.  Email your questions now  askthegovernor@969bostontalks.com or call during the show, 617.822.9600.  Please ask about MT - parental consent, lack of scientific information, advocacy of sexual activity and abortion for minors, when he is going to deal with this, etc.  The prior emails about MT might help you.

Tomorrow I'll have the entire list of legislators signing the letter.  Please be thinking of questions.  There are some Gov. Patrick certainly should answer!  Anne

MCFL: Newsletter Mailing Tuesday April 12th

by: MCFL Press Release

Sun Apr 10, 2011 at 17:58:54 PM EDT

Hello,

Pioneer Valley Mass Citizens for Life will be mailing out the Mother's Day Dinner edition of the newsletter this Tuesday April 12th from 9AM until we are finished in the Jordan Room at St. Elizabeth Church at 191 Hubbard St. in Ludlow.  We need volunteers to help with the mailing.  If you can come to help, even if you can only come for an hour, please stop by.  If you will be coming in the afternoon, please call my cell phone at 413-219-4329 before you come to make sure we are still there.  We finished earlier than planned for the last two mailings for PVMCFL, and I want to make sure no one drives all the way to Ludlow to find out that we are gone.  We are planning to be at the Church from 9AM until 3PM.

Thank you to all of you who have helped with previous mailings.  I really appreciate your help!  Hope to see you there!

MCFL: "Flash Mob" and visiting Sen. Brown's local office

by: MCFL Press Release

Sun Mar 20, 2011 at 21:21:02 PM EDT

To report the way the media reports on our events:  "Two groups rallied Saturday on Boston Common.  The event was organized by Planned Parenthood to allow them to keep receiving tax funds.  The opposition, representing the citizens of the Commonwealth, carried signs opposed to funding.  One such sign read, 'Our Choice, Our Money, Defund Planned Parenthood'.   The pro funding group has held rallies in various parts of the country where they have attracted similar opposition."

Actually, the Herald article did give our people pretty equal space with a good quote by Eric Anthony.  John Curry took these wonderful pictures.

Sen. Brown's local office is reporting that they are deluged with visits from supporters of abortion funding and funding PP.

You know, Cong. Chris Smith's bill, HR 3, would remove all government funding for abortion.  That is terribly important and, along with repealing Obamacare, our very top priority.  Officially, Planned parenthood is not allowed to use its Title X funds for abortion.

It is extremely important that we visit the local office in support of HR 3 and of defunding Planned Parenthood!   Please make an appointment ASAP!

MCFL: Planned Parenthood Rally Saturday - you need to be there!

by: MCFL Press Release

Thu Mar 17, 2011 at 12:37:06 PM EDT

Planned Parenthood is holding a rally to be sure they keep getting our tax money.
It is at the Parkman Bandstand, Boston Common, Saturday, March 19th, noon to 1pm.

They claim they can convince Senator Brown to fund them.  They brag that all their calls caused Congressman Lynch to speak for them on the floor of the U S House.

Here is what pro-lifers in Chicago did at a similar rally.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

We are not allowed to have balloons on the common, so please bring your own signs.

PP is after your children, your babies, and your money!  You can turn the tables on Saturday!  Anne

MCFL: The Harvest is Abundant!

by: MCFL Press Release

Mon Jan 31, 2011 at 12:04:01 PM EST

Three days of meetings at National Right to Life, the Ruddy Life Prizes, the Massachusetts Caucus, and the March for Life were awesome!

Tuesday night I met with and spoke to about 30 doctors from Central Massachusetts Chapter of the Catholic Medical Association and Wednesday afternoon I spoke to the Students for Life at U. Ma. Amherst.

Both local groups were just as awesome as DC!   Dr Mark Rollo and his associates are so well-informed and so committed!  Meeting the students at U. Ma. was such a pleasure.  They know what is going on, how to find out what they don't know, and they want to take action to save lives.

It was such an honor to speak to both groups - as it is any time I speak to the wonderful pro-lifers in the state.

Linda Thayer, who speaks to about 8,000 young people every year as well as countless adults, is working very hard to train more speakers.  Members of the first "class" have become very capable and confident under Linda's guidance.  She is ready to start another class.  If you would like to help to spread the word in Massachusetts - and, in the process, meet wonderful people - please reply to this email or call the office at 617-242-4199.

Christ said, "The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few, so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.  Go on your way; behold I am sending you like lambs among wolves."

Let's develop plenty of laborers who can go forth to educate!  Thanks, Anne

MCFL: Impressions from the March

by: MCFL Press Release

Tue Jan 25, 2011 at 12:29:09 PM EST

The people from Massachusetts had some pretty universal impressions.

1)  Most people felt the March was bigger than last year, which had more than 300,000 people.

2)  Among all the impressive things, the new Congressmen and Senators stood out.  Instead of whispering behind their hands that they are with us, they were crowding onto the stage at the beginning of the March to proclaim that they are with us!

3)  Everyone is focused on repealing Obamacare and outlawing all government funding of abortion.

4)  Added to the ever-increasing gigantic numbers of young people were a huge number of people of color.

5)  Even people not attending the March, just driving by on the side streets, eating in the House and Senate cafeterias, or in offices, were visibly supportive.  I met a pro-life military officer from Austria in the cafeteria and I saw taxi drivers waving at people headed to the March.

There were many other excellent events planned around the March.  I'll be sharing some of those with you.  As the busses arrive back, we'll have more to share.

We have so much to do but we are really moving!  Thanks, Anne

MCFL: MA on the March

by: MCFL Press Release

Mon Jan 24, 2011 at 19:08:03 PM EST

About 400 people from Massachusetts just left our caucus to join another 2500 at the March.

We were so fortunate to hear Professor Dwight Duncan, Thea Rossi Barron, Robert Alt fron the Heritage Foundation, and Professor Michael New discuss the implications of Roe v Wade, what will probably happen to Obamacare in the courts, what it was like to lobby with Dr Jefferson, and what the pro-life Movement accomplished in 2010.

After the caucus, constituents delivered Repeal Obamcare petitions to their Congressmen and our Senators.

Every time an elevator door opened, people in MCFL blue caps poured out.

As we approach our MA meeting place, the sea of blue caps gets thicker.  I believe there will be 400,000 people at this March. The weather is cold but not anywhere near as cold as home.

I sure you join me in commending all these wonderful people!    Anne

NRLC: On the 38th anniversary of Roe v. Wade

by: MCFL Press Release

Mon Jan 24, 2011 at 11:56:24 AM EST

January 22nd marked 38 years of legalized abortion in the United States. 38 years of loss, 38 years of pain for mothers and babies alike.

On January 22nd, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the laws of 50 states when it legalized abortion across the land in the Roe v. Wade decision. And while Roe has not yet been overturned, we are making progress toward that day.

Today, there are one-fourth fewer abortions than there were in the peak year, 1990. That's 400,000 fewer abortions every year, a huge success.

Public opinion polls now favor the pro-life position. And state legislatures, with the help of National Right to Life and our state affiliates, have passed hundreds of pro-life laws that protect the unborn and save many lives.

Norma McCorvey was "Jane Roe" in the Roe v. Wade decision of 1973.  Two decades after the decision came down, McCorvey declared she was pro-life and felt used during the judicial process to bring abortion to the country through judicial imposition.  The child borne by McCorvey, put up for adoption while the case was going through the courts, has never been identified. This year, one priority of ours is to pass legislation that bans abortions that are performed on unborn babies old enough to feel pain, which evidence now shows occurs by at least 20 weeks.

No child should ever be a victim of abortion and we are working hard to end this tragedy. Right now it appears that the current Supreme Court would uphold a law that prevents late abortions on babies old enough to feel pain. And that will save more lives.

It's time to end these late abortions on babies who can feel pain. Please help us enact life-saving legislation across the country with a generous gift today. To commemorate the 38th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, please consider a gift of $38. But know that a gift of any amount will help us save lives and will be deeply appreciated.
