MCFL: Questions about health care repeal

by: MCFL Press Release

Sun Aug 07, 2011 at 14:33:50 PM EDT

I want to share with you the reasons MCFL decided to initiate efforts to repeal Romneycare the answers to questions that have come up. The actual wording of the petition is at the end. I hope you are interested and will be able to take the time to read through it. Anne

WHY HAS MCFL DECIDED TO LAUNCH THIS INITIATIVE PETITION DRIVE?

Our biggest budget item in 2009 and 2010 was fighting O-care before and after passage.
We still want to fight it.  At first glance, it seems re-electing Sen. Brown is the only thing we can do.  With the same philosophy of keeping the pot boiling that caused us to run so many ads, we realized there is something else we can do to keep the pot boiling - something that will also benefit us once O-care is repealed.
The purpose of the petition is to:
1)  draw attention to the fact that MA, the prototype for O-care, is not happy with R-care.
2)  make health care an issue in both state and federal 2012 elections, when the petition will be on the ballot.
3)  get the repeal R-care process started. Once O-care is repealed, Massachusetts will still have our current care.

PEOPLE WANT TO SEE THE WHOLE LAW REPEALED. WHY HAVE YOU GONE WITH REPEALING JUST THE INDIVIDUAL MANDATE?

Currently health care is much more imbedded in state law than federal. We can not just repeal the whole law the way the US House did, so we are repealing the individual mandate, which we feel will be the start of bringing down the whole law.

WHAT IS THE INDIVIDUAL MANDATE?

Right now everyone in the state is required to buy health insurance or to pay a penalty.

Action: Reporting Abortion Statistics to your Town or City Council

by: massprolife

Sun Jul 17, 2011 at 23:18:24 PM EDT

For many, the picket line is too controversial. For others, sidewalk counseling is too emotionally draining and exhausting. It's tough to be an active pro-lifer and not have it take up much of your time, effort and energy.

Ending abortion, however, can be done in a multitude of ways. And if you are not comfortable standing at a protest, or counseling women as they enter a clinic, or are unable to volunteer for a statewide group or at a pregnancy center, there is another option.

One of the most effective ways to shut down abortion clinics is through regulation. Many clinics don't follow the most basic health regulations of any other medical facility. An urgent care center that mainly proscribes antibiotics is often more regulated and scrutinized than an abortion clinic.

As well documented by pro-life investigators Mark Crutcher and more recently Lila Rose, the reality of clinic interiors is that they are dangerous places that are in need of regulations.

MCFL: Abortion funding in DC - 300 babies dead

by: MCFL Press Release

Mon Jul 11, 2011 at 12:14:52 PM EDT

This week the U. S. House is expected to vote on the Fiscal Year 2012 Financial Services Appropriations Bill (H.R. 2434). As reported from committee, this bill prevents all congressionally appropriated funds, federal and local, from being used for elective abortions in the District of Columbia. An amendment to allow local public funds to be used for elective abortions was defeated in committee. The pro-abs will offer a similar amendment on the House floor.

Since the Obama administration has forced tax funding of abortions in DC, 300 abortions have been funded - ie - 300 babies have died who would be alive if tax money had not been available to kill them.

Call your Congressman!  Message: oppose any amendment to remove or weaken the ban on DC abortionfunding.

Congressman John W. Olver , 202-225-5335
Congressman Richard E. Neal, 202-225-5601
Congressman James P. McGovern, 202-225-6101
Congressman Barney Frank, 202-225-5931
Congressman Niki Tsongas, 202-225-3411
Congressman John F. Tierney, 202-225-8020
Congressman Edward J. Markey, 202-225-2836
Congressman Michael Capuano, 202-225-5111
Congressman Stephen F. Lynch, 202-225-8273
Congressman William D. Keating, 202-225-3111

Studies show that the availability of public funds for abortion greatly increases abortions. Any lawmaker seeking to reduce abortion should support the DC abortion funding ban. Even some of ours might get that, so please make your call!

Thanks, Anne

Ten Ways to be an action-oriented college pro-lifer

by: massprolife

Sun Jul 10, 2011 at 01:14:33 AM EDT

Ten Ways to be an action-oriented college pro-lifer

#1 Successfully lobby the school to have resources for pregnant and parenting students (day care, housing, financial aid, extension of college health care, etc.)

#2 Sidewalk counseling

#3 Volunteering on a pro-life campaign or going to the State House (or Congress) for a pro-life lobby day

#4 Handing out the MCFL News

#5 Doing literature drops around campus

#6 Bringing in a pro-life speaker like Rebecca Kiessling or Linda Thayer

#7 Host a pro-life forum/debate on campus

#8 An editorial in the campus newspaper about the lack of pregnant and parenting students on campus, how there isn't a choice, how women have to choose between their babies and education, etc.

#9 Make unconventional (and pro-woman) pro-life arguments in class, to friends, all around

#10 Get a pro-life class, or an abortion controversy class, or do a pro-life research paper for class (embryonic stem cell research! the economic harm from abortion! bad environmental effects of abortion!)

Lifenews: New Hampshire Must Re-Vote on Defunding Planned Parenthood

by: MCFL Press Release

Thu Jun 30, 2011 at 22:08:17 PM EDT

New Hampshire Must Re-Vote on De-Funding Planned Parenthood
Last week, the members of the Executive Council rejected a taxpayer funded contract with the Planned Parenthood abortion business but it appears the members will have to vote again on voiding the 1.8 million contract.

In a move that generated little media attention or focus, New Hampshire became the latest state to scrap taxpayer funding of the Planned Parenthood abortion business when members of a panel voted 3-2 to revoke the funding. Members of the Executive Council said they made the decision because Planned Parenthood does abortions and spends large amounts of money paying its administrators huge salaries and lobbying the state government.

The Executive Council voided the contract with Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) with Councilor Dan St. Hilaire of Concord casting a vote against the contract along with David Wheeler of Nashua and Raymond J. Wieczorek of Manchester. The Union Leader indicated Raymond S. Burton of Bath and Chris Sununu of Newfields supported funding the abortion business.

Now, the New Hampshire Journal obtained an e-mail from Health and Human Services Commissioner Nick Toumpas, a Democrat, to council member Wheeler that it says makes it appear the council will have to re-vote on the state contracts, giving Planned Parenthood a second chance to make its case. In his letter, Toumpas admits HHS used strange budget numbers concerning the contracts and the newspaper says the wrong numbers are being used as "an excuse" to require a second vote. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/0...

ACTION: Contact members of the Executive Council at http://www.nh.gov/council/ and ask them to vote against the Planned Parenthood contract.

Sincere Thanks to all the pro-lifers in the Sixth Worcester State Representative District who worked so hard to elect Peter Durant. Peter won the election with a 56 vote margin.  Congratulations, also, to the members of the MCFL State Political Action Committee. The  PAC called and mailed to close to 1000 people twice as well as a couple of emails and sent out almost 8,000 Dear Friend cards for our people to send to their friends.
The State PAC also worked for Jim Dixon, a great pro-lifer. Unfortunately, Jim was defeated.

MCFL: Maria Talks doctors site? Legislators call for de-funding!

by: MCFL Press Release

Wed Apr 27, 2011 at 12:31:57 PM EDT

Maria Talks asks:  Do people really have abortions?

The Herald wrote last week:  "Maria tells teen readers abortion is a 'hot topic' but that the procedure is 'more common than you think' and 'safe and effective, though some people may experience temporary discomfort.'  The site's discussion of risk is limited to advising that it is better to get an abortion sooner rather than later."

This afternoon, the site says:  Yes.  It has been estimated that as many as four out of every 10 women in the United States have had at least one abortion by the time they turn 40 years old.

MT was down this morning - could it have been to change some evidence?

PRESS CONFERENCE:  This morning a bi-partisan group of state legislators held a press conference to announce that they are sending a letter to the Governor demanding that MT be taken down and de-funded.  They will deliver the letter tomorrow because they expect to add to the fifty signatories.

Re. Marc Lombardo (R-Billerica) is leading the effort.  He spoke, as did Reps. Colleen Garry (D-Dracut), Elizabeth Poirier (R-North Attleboro), and Stephen DiNatale (D-Fitchburg).  Also spearheading the letter are Reps.  James Lyons (R - North Andover) and John Rogers (D-Norwood).  Other lawmakers at the press conference included Reps Geoff Diehl (R-Whitman), Donald Wong (R-Saugus), George Ross (R-Attleboro), Ryan Fattman (R-Sutton), Angelo D'Emilia (R-Bridgewater), David Vieira (R-Teaticket), Kevin Kuros (R-Uxbridge), Richard Bastien (R-Garnder), Viriato DeMacedo (R-Plymouth), Don Humason (R-Westfield), and Jay Barrows (R-Mansfield).  Read more.

John Triolo, our Assistant Legislative director, provides this video of the press conference.

John also reminds you that you can "Ask the Governor" on Thursday at 9am with Jim and Margery on 96.9 on the radio dial.  Email your questions now  askthegovernor@969bostontalks.com or call during the show, 617.822.9600.  Please ask about MT - parental consent, lack of scientific information, advocacy of sexual activity and abortion for minors, when he is going to deal with this, etc.  The prior emails about MT might help you.

Tomorrow I'll have the entire list of legislators signing the letter.  Please be thinking of questions.  There are some Gov. Patrick certainly should answer!  Anne

MCFL: What did Senator Brown say about Planned Parenthood, if anything?

by: MCFL Press Release

Tue Mar 22, 2011 at 22:29:28 PM EDT

The main stream media "reports" that Sen. Brown has come out in favor of funding Planned Parenthood.  That is not actually what he said.

"I support family planning and health services for women. Given our severe budget problems, I don't believe any area of the budget is completely immune from cuts. However, the proposal to eliminate all funding for family planning goes too far. As we continue with our budget negotiations, I hope we can find a compromise that is reasonable and appropriate."

The reporting has confused the provision of H.R. 1 that zeroes out Title X for the rest of the fiscal year (on which MCFL has taken no position), with the Pence Amendment, which does NOT reduce funding for Title X but which denies federal funding, from any program, for PPFA and its affiliates.  Brown clearly expressed disagreement with the former provision, but he made no comment on the Pence Amendment.

Members of the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, and President Obama are engaged in negotiations about which federal programs should be reduced or eliminated for the remainder of the current federal fiscal year. Important decisions may be made very soon!

On February 18, 2011, the House of Representatives adopted an amendment, offered by Congressman Mike Pence (R-In.) and strongly supported by National Right to Life, to eliminate all forms of federal funding for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and its affiliates, which were listed by name in the amendment. MCFL: Would you help get this in your Church Bulletin, please?

by: MCFL Press Release

Mon Mar 07, 2011 at 00:00:00 AM EST

I have sent this to more than 400 pro-life churches across the state.   I have found those who open our Bulletin  notices  tend to run them but many churches do not open them.  I know that, if a notice comes from you, your church is much more likely to print it.  With your help, we can make the Oratory Contest available to students all across the state.  Be sure to put your contact info on the notice.  Thanks very, very much!  Anne

Please include for weeks of March 12/13 and March 19/20.

Attention students in Grades 10 - 12.  Win a trip for two to the National Right to Life Convention where you will compete for cash prizes.  Enter the Dr Mildred F. Jefferson Oratory contest sponsored by Massachusetts Citizens for Life.  The topic is "What does abortion mean to you and your peers?"  Judging for the Massachusetts winners will take place on April 9th at the MCFL Convention and Youth Conference.  Get your information at www.masscitizensforlife.org.

MCFL: Received your personal call from Planned Parenthood yet?

by: MCFL Press Release

Mon Mar 07, 2011 at 00:00:00 AM EST

Planned Parenthood and its pro-abortion allies are pulling out all the stops and doing everything they can afford - which is everything - to be sure they stay at the public trough.
They claim to have generated 700,000 phone calls to Senators.  I know many of you have received personal calls from PP begging you to call Senator Brown to demand he vote to fund PP.

There are a lot of lies being told in those calls and in the press.  I want to be sure that you know that Title X ("family planning" funds) are not being cut at all in the House version, just none of them are going to PP.  Also, PP charges for everything.  That means a woman can go somewhere else and use the money she or Medicaid would have paid PP.

The Senate will vote Tuesday on the Continuing Resolution to fund the government through September, immediately after debate on the Patent Reform bill.

MCFL: Senate's turn to defund Planned Parenthood

by: MCFL Press Release

Tue Mar 01, 2011 at 12:44:52 PM EST

Mayor Menino wrote to Congress urging them not to cut Planned Parenthood's hundreds of millions of dollars of tax money.  Please read the letter.  http://politi.co/gnpA9X

Why would Mayor Menino and these other mayors want to stick up for an organization that is complicit in hiding cases of statutory rape and sex trafficking as well as fiscal malfeasance?

Why would the letter from Mayor Menino and the other mayors misrepresent the Pence Amendment which does not cut Title X funding, just denies it to Planned Parenthood?

Could it be the huge amounts of money that Planned Parenthood gives to pro-abortion, Democrat candidates?

Planned Parenthood is spending $200,000 for commercials against the Pence Amendment that will run on cable television, plus network TV and radio in the District of Columbia. Yesterday there were full page ads in the Boston Herald and the Boston Globe.

As well as the ads and getting their mayors to write, Planned Parenthood will pay for thousands of phone calls to the Senate.  We must counter those calls!

Please call Senator Brown today with this message, "Defunding Planned Parenthood must be a non-negotiable in the Continuing Resolution.   I urge you to vote for the Pence Amendment and to accept nothing less ."  Then, please get two more people to call.  Remember, Planned Parenthood has almost 400 million of our tax money at stake to fight this battle!

Call Sen. Brown now, (202) 224-4543

Think where we are right now and be proud of what you are accomplishing!  Anne

NRLC: NRLC Commends US House for Vote to Defund Planned Parenthood

by: MCFL Press Release

Fri Feb 18, 2011 at 15:44:17 PM EST

NRLC Commends U.S. House for Vote to Cut Federal Funds from "Bloated Abortion Mega-Marketer Planned Parenthood"

The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the nationwide federation of state right-to-life organizations, expressed strong approval that the U.S. House of Representatives today adopted, 240-185, an amendment offered by Congressman Mike Pence (R-In.) to cut off federal funds to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and 102 named PPFA affiliates.

"This landmark vote demonstrates that most House members now recognize Planned Parenthood is a hyper-political, under-regulated, out-of-control mega-marketer of abortion as a method of birth control," said NRLC Legislative Director Douglas Johnson.
