The House voted 251 - 175 to pull all tax funding for abortion. All of our Massachusetts Congressmen voted against the bill - ie - in favor of using our tax money to pay for abortions. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/0...
Pro-life Senators have already filed a Senate bill to codify funding restrictions and to remove abortion funding from Obamacare. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/0...
I'll let you know as things develop in the Senate. Thank you for all the calls you made! Anne
The U S House is scheduled to vote on H.R.3, the Smith, Lipinski "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion act" on or about this Wednesday, May 4th.
Currently we have a patchwork of laws, like the Hyde Amendment, which restrict some funding and need to be voted into place every year.
Also, in major new programs created by Obamacare, federal subsidies are now permissible.
H.R.3 would replace this hit-or-miss approach with a permanent, government-wide prohibition on federal funding of abortion and federal subsidies for health plans that cover abortion.
We must call all our Congressmen. Remember Lynch and Neal voted for the Stupak funding ban and Keating, Neal, and Tsongas voted for the Continuing Resolution which had some abortion funding restrictions.
The message is to support H.R.3 and to oppose all amendments.
Congressman John W. Olver , 202-225-5335
Congressman Richard E. Neal, 202-225-5601
Congressman James P. McGovern, 202-225-6101
Congressman Barney Frank, 202-225-5931
Congressman Niki Tsongas, 202-225-3411
Congressman John F. Tierney, 202-225-8020
Congressman Edward J. Markey, 202-225-2836
Congressman Michael Capuano, 202-225-5111
Congressman Stephen F. Lynch, 202-225-8273
Congressman William D. Keating, 202-225-3111
The H. R. 3 ban would be the best we have ever had! Your call is vital - it can make the difference! Go to it! Anne
Bad news! A federal appeals court ruled Friday that President Barack Obama can force taxpayers to finance embryonic stem cell research!
We expect Committee hearings on our bills to be announced any minute.
Our five bills have been referred to three committees: Judiciary (Laura's Law, Sex selection, PBA), Public Health (fetal pain), and Revenue (Taxpayer option).
We are especially grateful to the following legislators who sponsored all five of our bills: Rep. Elizabeth Poirier, Rep. Nicholas Collins, Rep. James Lyons, Rep. John Rogers, and Sen, Richard Ross.
We are also looking at a fetal homicide bill sponsored by Rep. Bradley Jones, strengthening of the Baby Safe Haven Law by Rep. Steven Levy, and fetal anesthesia bill by Rep. Vincent deMacedo.
MCFL will be opposing the Health Care Frameworks which mandate offensive sex ed including teaching children how to obtain abortions without their parents' knowledge or consent. We will also oppose a proposed Doctor Prescribed Suicide bill.
Special election primaries for state representative in the Sixth Worcester District and state representative in the Tenth Middlesex District are next Tuesday, April 12th. The general special election is May 10th. We have candidates in both races!
Tenth Middlesex: Jim Dixon (R) is pro-life, actually a former member of the MCFL Board. None of the other candidates has returned our Questionnaire.
Sixth Worcester: Peter Durant ( R) is pro-life
Joanne Powell (D) is pro-life
Geraldo Alicea (D) takes a 100% pro-abortion position.
Madeline McComish, Chairman of the MCFL State PAC tells me the PAC has done phone calls
and mailings into the Worcester District for the primary and will be working in both districts for the special election.
The 2009 Back to School issue of the MCFL News featured an analysis of the "Get Real" curriculum designed by Planned Parenthood. We featured the story to warn people that PP was marketing the program to most of the towns in the state. Since then, Haverhill pro-lifers were able to keep out this highly offensive program, which tells children how to get abortions and advocates illegal activity, out of their schools, but many school departments bought it (literally) and are starting to implement. Groups of parents, such as those in Needham, www.needhamsense.org. are working to keep out these programs. Other groups are forming.
When the MCFL News came out, many people checked to see what was going on locally. It is time to check again to see if any new "Wellness" programs are planned in your town.
This is another way you can defund Planned Parenthood by cutting into their business! Anne
The main stream media "reports" that Sen. Brown has come out in favor of funding Planned Parenthood. That is not actually what he said.
"I support family planning and health services for women. Given our severe budget problems, I don't believe any area of the budget is completely immune from cuts. However, the proposal to eliminate all funding for family planning goes too far. As we continue with our budget negotiations, I hope we can find a compromise that is reasonable and appropriate."
The reporting has confused the provision of H.R. 1 that zeroes out Title X for the rest of the fiscal year (on which MCFL has taken no position), with the Pence Amendment, which does NOT reduce funding for Title X but which denies federal funding, from any program, for PPFA and its affiliates. Brown clearly expressed disagreement with the former provision, but he made no comment on the Pence Amendment.
To report the way the media reports on our events: "Two groups rallied Saturday on Boston Common. The event was organized by Planned Parenthood to allow them to keep receiving tax funds. The opposition, representing the citizens of the Commonwealth, carried signs opposed to funding. One such sign read, 'Our Choice, Our Money, Defund Planned Parenthood'. The pro funding group has held rallies in various parts of the country where they have attracted similar opposition."
Actually, the Herald article did give our people pretty equal space with a good quote by Eric Anthony. John Curry took these wonderful pictures.
Sen. Brown's local office is reporting that they are deluged with visits from supporters of abortion funding and funding PP.
You know, Cong. Chris Smith's bill, HR 3, would remove all government funding for abortion. That is terribly important and, along with repealing Obamacare, our very top priority. Officially, Planned parenthood is not allowed to use its Title X funds for abortion.
It is extremely important that we visit the local office in support of HR 3 and of defunding Planned Parenthood! Please make an appointment ASAP!

Turns out many people are incensed about Planned Parenthood using our tax money to lobby for more of our tax money. Among the pro-lifers on the Common tomorrow will be a bag pipe troop!Be sure to bring your camera and your signs! That's noon to one, Parkman Bandstand.
Thanks for your great work! Anne
Planned Parenthood is holding a rally to be sure they keep getting our tax money.
It is at the Parkman Bandstand, Boston Common, Saturday, March 19th, noon to 1pm.
They claim they can convince Senator Brown to fund them. They brag that all their calls caused Congressman Lynch to speak for them on the floor of the U S House.
Here is what pro-lifers in Chicago did at a similar rally.
Today was one of the most life lifting days I have had in my life and I felt compelled to share what happened. The restaurant I work at had donated to the annual MCFL dinner, they received the MCFL News earlier this morning. My boss jokingly asked if the picture in the lower left hand corner with me and my aunts holding a "stop abortion now" sign should be framed. He went and approached a fellow co-worker and friend, who was a little taken aback by the sign I was holding in the picture. At first she claimed it was not me, but after taking a closer look, she had this shocked look on her face, and I knew I was going to be given the opportunity I had been hoping for.
A few days before, I noticed that this particular co-worker "liked" a link on Facebook that said "I Stand with Planned Parenthood", which is a promotion Planned Parenthood is doing to try and rally young people to oppose the House of Representatives vote that passed the Pence Amendment, to ultimately defund PP. I was going to write something on her Facebook wall because I never let a chance to spread the ProLife message pass me by, but this time I resisted. Instead, I prayed for a few minutes to allow God to give me the opportunity to talk with this friend of mine if it was right for me to do so.
This is the photo that started the conversation between Matt Hanafin and his co-worker. It shows Matt with his cousin Kayla Coluci (left) and his aunt Kathy Coluci (right) at this year's March for Life in Washington, D.C.
As my co-worker was walking up to me today, I knew God was providing me with the opportunity I had prayed for. The first thing she said to me was, "I signed a petition last week to support Planned Parenthood. It's not just abortion they provide, but contraception and STD testing too." I told her about the recent that showed Planned Parenthood aiding and abetting the sex trafficking of underage girls and statutory rape. I talked to her about how PP failed to report these rapes, how they failed to protect these young girls, and how they were essentially allowing the rapes to continue. I then went on to explain to her about the recordings of PP employees willingly accepting donations to abort a black baby after the "donor" (who was really a paid actor) said he felt there were "too many black people". Some employees even agreed with the "donor" over the phone. I then proceeded to explain PP never tells a woman the potential threats of abortion, what can happen to her before and after the abortion, and what happens to her unborn child, and I went into great detail about each of these.
SEN. BROWN VOTED RIGHT ON THE HOUSE AND SEATE VERSIONS OF THE CONTINUING RESOLUTION!
The senate just voted on House bill, H.R. 1, the long-term Continuing Resolution approved by the House in February that contains the Pence Amendment, reinstates the Mexico City Policy, stops abortion funding in the District of Columbia, and de-funds the UNFPA. The vote was 44-56.
After defeating the pro-life House bill, senators also defeated the Senate-sponsored long-term budget bill, which included none of the pro-life provisions, 42-58.
Senator Brown voted for the pro-life House version and against the anti-life Senate version. The votes were mostly along party lines, but some Republicans voted against us.
Please call in your thanks immediately! (202) 224-4543
It would have been wonderful to pass the House version, but it is very exciting for Sen. Brown to maintain his 100% pro-life voting record!
Thank you for all the work you have done on this! Anne
Members of the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, and President Obama are engaged in negotiations about which federal programs should be reduced or eliminated for the remainder of the current federal fiscal year. Important decisions may be made very soon!
On February 18, 2011, the House of Representatives adopted an amendment, offered by Congressman Mike Pence (R-In.) and strongly supported by National Right to Life, to eliminate all forms of federal funding for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and its affiliates, which were listed by name in the amendment. The House vote was 240-185 in favor of the Pence Amendment.
Planned Parenthood and its pro-abortion allies are pulling out all the stops and doing everything they can afford - which is everything - to be sure they stay at the public trough.
They claim to have generated 700,000 phone calls to Senators. I know many of you have received personal calls from PP begging you to call Senator Brown to demand he vote to fund PP.
There are a lot of lies being told in those calls and in the press. I want to be sure that you know that Title X ("family planning" funds) are not being cut at all in the House version, just none of them are going to PP. Also, PP charges for everything. That means a woman can go somewhere else and use the money she or Medicaid would have paid PP.
The Senate will vote Tuesday on the Continuing Resolution to fund the government through September, immediately after debate on the Patent Reform bill.
Mayor Menino wrote to Congress urging them not to cut Planned Parenthood's hundreds of millions of dollars of tax money. Please read the letter. http://politi.co/gnpA9X
Why would Mayor Menino and these other mayors want to stick up for an organization that is complicit in hiding cases of statutory rape and sex trafficking as well as fiscal malfeasance?
Why would the letter from Mayor Menino and the other mayors misrepresent the Pence Amendment which does not cut Title X funding, just denies it to Planned Parenthood?
Could it be the huge amounts of money that Planned Parenthood gives to pro-abortion, Democrat candidates?
Planned Parenthood is spending $200,000 for commercials against the Pence Amendment that will run on cable television, plus network TV and radio in the District of Columbia. Yesterday there were full page ads in the Boston Herald and the Boston Globe.
As well as the ads and getting their mayors to write, Planned Parenthood will pay for thousands of phone calls to the Senate. We must counter those calls!
Please call Senator Brown today with this message, "Defunding Planned Parenthood must be a non-negotiable in the Continuing Resolution. I urge you to vote for the Pence Amendment and to accept nothing less ." Then, please get two more people to call. Remember, Planned Parenthood has almost 400 million of our tax money at stake to fight this battle!
Call Sen. Brown now, (202) 224-4543
Think where we are right now and be proud of what you are accomplishing! Anne
NRLC Commends U.S. House for Vote to Cut Federal Funds from "Bloated Abortion Mega-Marketer Planned Parenthood"
The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the nationwide federation of state right-to-life organizations, expressed strong approval that the U.S. House of Representatives today adopted, 240-185, an amendment offered by Congressman Mike Pence (R-In.) to cut off federal funds to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and 102 named PPFA affiliates.
"This landmark vote demonstrates that most House members now recognize Planned Parenthood is a hyper-political, under-regulated, out-of-control mega-marketer of abortion as a method of birth control," said NRLC Legislative Director Douglas Johnson.
At 2:13pm, Friday afternoon, the US House voted to strike all federal funding for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
The congressional body voted 240-185 in favor of the amendment, introduced by Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN), to the 2011 Federal Spending Bill.
Nine Democrats voted pro-life. The official roll call has not yet been published (it is 2:37PM as I write this). If you try this link later < http://clerk.house.gov/cgi-bin... > the vote will be there. It is possible that Steve Lynch or Richie Neal voted to end the funding.
One of our members received the message included below. Of course, she called her Congressman immediately.
Call now to tell your representative to vote "YES" on the Pence Amendment to Title X. Let's hope it does all the "awful" things Planned Parenthood claims! Good calling! Anne

The following message from Planned Parenthood Federation of America has been sent to you by Mother Jones.
URGENT MESSAGE FROM: Cecile Richards, President
Planned Parenthood Federation of America:
This week, anti-choice House leadership is forcing a vote on the most dangerous legislative assault on women's health in Planned Parenthood's 95-year history.
Then make sure your message gets through by calling your representative's office (don't worry, we'll provide you with tips on what to say).
Title X, our nation's family planning program, provides funding for birth control, cancer screenings, HIV testing, and other lifesaving care. Anti-choice House leadership wants to completely eliminate this crucial funding particularly for Planned Parenthood. That would cut off millions of women from care they have no other way to afford, leaving them at increased risk of sickness and death. Click here to take action.
After sending the last email about PP funding, I went to "Floor Summary" to see how the voting was going on all the pro-life funding restrictions. Since the entire Continuing Resolution is being debated and the abortion funding only comes up in the appropriate sections, it was a challenge to follow.
I decided to check out LifeNews. Steve Ertelt, bless his soul, has the entire analysis. I don't want to spoil it but you are not going to believe what is happening right now on the House floor! http://www.lifenews.com/2011/0...

NRLC Alert: House votes this week on de-funding Planned Parenthood!
U.S. House votes this week on defunding Planned Parenthood, and other pro-life issues.
Click here to Take Action! Please call TODAY!
On February 15, 16, and 17, the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on multiple abortion-related amendments to a bill (H.R. 1) that will fund all federal programs through September 30, 2011. Of particular importance is an amendment to be offered by Congressman Mike Pence (R-In.), which would deny all federal funds, through September 30, for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc., and 102 PPFA affiliates, which are named in the text of the amendment. On February 14, NRLC sent House members a letter urging them to support the Pence Amendmen and certain other very important pro-life provisions contained in H.R. 1. Regarding the Pence Amendment, the NRLC letter said, "PPFA is the nation's largest abortion provider, reporting 324,008 abortions in 2008. It appears that abortion accounts for roughly one-third of the aggregate income generated by PPFA-affiliated clinics. According to press reports, PPFA has recently mandated that all of its regional affiliates must provide abortions by the end of 2013. Recent media reports regarding abuses associated with PPFA-affiliated clinics in multiple states provide an additional justification for the amendment. NRLC strongly supports the Pence Amendment, and will include the roll call in our scorecard." To read the entire NRLC letter, click here.
Please call the office of your U.S. House member and urge him or her to support the Pence Amendment and all other pro-life amendments to H.R. 1. Simply enter your zip code into the box above, and you will see the correct phone number, as well as a suggestion for the message you should deliver to the staff person who takes the call. After that, if possible, please take a moment to use the handy "feedback" form to send NRLC a brief report, by e-mail, regarding what the staff person said about how your representative will vote on the Pence Amendment. This vote could occur on February 15, 16, or 17, but most likely will occur on February 17. Please call today.

In Pennsylvania, abortion clinics have not been inspected for safety and cleanliness for 17 years! This was brought to the public's attention with the recent shocking revelations of a grand jury report detailing the horrific practices of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, an abortionist in Philadelphia. When was the last time any clinics in Massachusetts were inspected? Can citizens in our own Commonwealth be assured that similar disturbing practices are not occurring here?
In the 1970's the Massachusetts legislature passed a bill which would have, among other things, required that an abortion clinic have a fire extinguisher and an elevator that would hold a stretcher. That law was enjoined . Apparently there are more regulations applying when a dog is groomed than when a woman has an abortion.
That Was The Week That Was for Planned Parenthood. The New York Times claims PP is under siege. The week started with Abby Johnson speaking to 18,000 students at the March for Life, being featured on national TV, and excerpts from her book, Unplanned, appearing widely. She tells of being forced to participate in an abortion and of Planned Parenthood requiring her clinic to do abortions - more and more of them.
Next came the "pimp and under-age illegal alien prostitutes" video put out by Lila Rose's Live Action, followed by more and more videos. You will remember that Lila exposed Planned Parenthood's willingness to perform abortions on underage girls without telling their parents or reporting the obvious statutory rapes involved.
